Winter Photography Locations on the East Side of Cleveland

I love a good snowy weather, when everything outside looks like a winter wonderland. While winters in Cleveland Ohio are long, they’re not always picturesque. We’re often stuck with slushy ground and leafless trees. It’s easy to loose your photography inspiration, when the days are short and the temperatures are low. But I find it super beneficial to both my mental health and photographer’s creativity to get outdoors, and below are some of my favorite locations, for the East Siders of Cleveland.

1. North Chagrin Reservation

I particularly love this park when everything is dull and gray outside, as it still has a decent amount of green. There is a good amount of evergreens as well as ivy, so head to North Chagrin Reservation for your pictures and you won’t be disappointed.

2. Acacia Reservation

If you read my winter styling guide, you know that I am a big fan of textures, especially for the winter pictures. While Acacia is gorgeous during warmer months, it’s still very pretty in the winter: thanks to all of that dry grass. I love how it adds textures and dimension to the photographs, and it doesn’t have this “bare look” that the winter trees have. Bonus point for how the grass catches the sunset light, simply mesmerizing.

3. Penitentiary Glen Reservation

This is another favorite of mine, and also has plenty of evergreens to add some color to the winter images. I love how even when the trees are mostly gray, you still get this foresty feel. There are plenty of paths and boardwalks to add to you photographs’ composition. Did I mention you can find the snowdrops there? I mean, how would a winter get any pretier than that?

While winter may appear as the worst time for photography, I like tackling all the challenges it presents. Yes, you have to dress appropriately, but it sure will be worth it for snowy winter wonderland, or a moody photoshoot in a soft winter lighting.

These are my top 3 favorites and I will make sure to add more as I go!
